Kids Building Wisconsin 2019
As labor shortages continue to plague the construction and skilled trades industry, CG Schmidt joined a group of area A/E/C firms that are looking to the future to help solve the problem. Far, far to the future. In fact, most of the attendees at the annual Kids Building Wisconsin won’t enter the job force for a decade or more!
Kids Building Wisconsin was founded as a non-profit to inspire and encourage kids’ interest in construction, a joint effort between numerous Madison-area firms. Each year, they hold their hallmark event in Fitchburg, WI that brings together dozens of area firms in the construction, architecture and engineering trades for one day of fun and education. Each participating firm is charged with creating an interactive exhibit for children aged 3 – 12. Exhibiting firms helped kids build their own toolboxes, took them up in a boom lift, and even showed them how their plumbing works, among many others.
Future builders at the CG Schmidt booth were able to take remote-controlled construction vehicles for a spin in our small-scale simulated jobsite including tower cranes, excavators, front-end loaders, dump trucks and more. The exhibit was constructed with assistance of CG Schmidt Madison Project Manager, Austin Rausch, whose own children helped “test” out the equipment, and provide quality control for maximum fun.
In total, more than 2,000 future builders (and their parents) attended the event.
