SEEKING ON-CALL HEROES
Donating blood is essential to community health and the need for blood is constant. During this uncertain time, blood donation is still encouraged to ensure a stable supply throughout this pandemic. Rather than cancel a blood drive that was scheduled for March 25, CG Schmidt made the decision to move forward with it after consulting with Versiti regarding what precautions were needed.
The Versiti Bloodmobile was onsite at CG Schmidt’s Milwaukee headquarters that day as our employees demonstrated the company’s core value of caring by volunteering to donate blood and help save lives during this global crisis. Together with family, friends and industry partners, we filled the schedule of 30 donors and collected 28 blood units. That means up to 84 lives will be touched by donations collected at our drive.
Although CG Schmidt hosts a blood drive every year, this year was especially critical amidst the on-going crisis. With that said, The Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin is in need of community host sites to maintain community blood supply for the remainder of 2020. Versiti has had hundreds of canceled blood drives in the coming weeks and months that must be replaced. While their Donor Centers are still open and accommodating as many donors as possible, the majority of the blood collected comes from mobile drives in the community – the same drives that have canceled.
Versiti is seeking “On-Call Heroes” – community venues that will commit to hosting blood drives in the weeks and months to come. To learn more about the requirements of hosting a bloodmobile or if your organization or one that you know is interested in being an “On Call Hero”, please contact Tara Blaesing at tblaesing@versiti.org or 414-975-0969. Please pass this information along to your partners and friends and share on social media – we are in this together and need your help spreading the word!
