Awarded BizTimes 2024 Notable Leaders in Construction Real Estate and Design, Eric Schmidt, President of CG Schmidt, is a visionary leader within the construction industry. In his third year as president, a role that follows his over 30 years with the firm and in the industry, he has spearheaded multiple strategic initiatives to grow the company, expand services and engage community and local business opportunities to improve the lives of the people in the places that CG Schmidt serves. 

CG Schmidt has served the Milwaukee-area for 103 years, and Eric opened the Western Regional office in Madison, WI in 2006. The firm recently opened a new office in Tempe, Ariz., with a grand opening and ribbon cutting already in the books. In his tenure, Eric has been equally focused in creating opportunities for cultural, educational, workforce and economic development for the local businesses in the communities CG Schmidt serves. He has led the firm’s mentor/protege program with Milwaukee-area minority construction management firm, JCP Construction. High DEI project participation and numerous CG Schmidt project awards in Racine County — including within the multi-phase redevelopment of Belle City Square — is reflective of Eric’s work in expanding opportunities for underrepresented businesses and laborers. CG Schmidt is also serving as Construction Management as Advisor to Racine Unified School District’s $600 million, 30-year referendum to make necessary upgrades to over two dozen schools throughout the district. The workforce development with Racine County serves as a model to ensure that smaller firms, skilled laborers and even the businesses that benefit with an influx of construction investment have local opportunities to develop skilled tradespeople, contract smaller firms, secure employment and benefit from economic growth.
