Virtual Design and Construction

REIMAGINING THE FUTURE OF CONSTRUCTION

Through our visionary approach to Virtual Design and Construction (VDC), we transcend ordinary, pioneering innovation and precision. Before a single brick is laid, we transport you into the heart of your project, allowing you to explore and evaluate with clarity. Using these advanced technologies, we’re changing how buildings are planned and constructed – creating more integrated, efficient and cost-effective project outcomes while never compromising quality.

Benefits of VDC Construction

CG Schmidt has embraced VDC as powerful tools that help enhance communication and collaboration by allowing designers, builders, and clients to virtually “see” the facility long before the work is put in place. VDC can aid in construction sequence planning, options analysis, cost estimating, coordination, clash detection, and more.

Logistics Planning

3D models created by our in-house Buildling Information Modeling (BIM) team allow project planners, owners, and field coordinators to visualize complex site logistics from a high-level vantage point. This is especially useful in occupied facilities, or tight urban sites, where access must be maintained or material deliveries and storage carefully coordinated to minimize disruption. Using 3D models, logistics planners can spot potential pinch-points well before the project begins to alleviate them.

safety-training

Virtual Safety Training

CG Schmidt requires workers to undergo rigorous safety training and pass testing before being allowed to work on our job sites. We use BIM and virtual reality to support and enhance traditional safety and training programs. Trainees can navigate a virtual model in 3D or virtual reality to identify safety violations on a simulated jobsite. Being able to visualize the site hazards helps workers more easily identify them in the field and improves retention by relying on critical thinking skills instead of rote memorization. These models and training programs can also be easily updated and tailored for project- and site-specific hazards and challenges.

Trade Coordination

BIM technology is the perfect tool for better coordination between trade partners. We can quickly and easily share BIM models with trade partners and vendors to show construction requirements, even providing custom model views for various trades. Being able to see the requirements and designs in 3D enhances project understanding and removes ambiguity. By integrating our models with the models and drawings from trade partners and architects, we can easily identify and rectify mismatches and clashes between systems in design well before they become costly issues in the field. And with a singular model containing information from each partner, everyone has access to more data to make better, more informed decisions.

4D Scheduling

4D Scheduling takes traditional Building Information Modeling to the next level, integrating the project’s schedule with the model itself and allowing real-time digital project construction visualization. This is especially beneficial during logistics planning, as planners can easily comprehend what the building will look like at any given point and where work will be concentrated, compared to a traditional project schedule. A 4D schedule also improves communication between project management teams, owners, and their staff.

Virtual Tours

Using the latest in virtual and augmented reality, our team can give clients, investors, building users, and partners virtual tours of their spaces before and during construction. These virtual walk-throughs help generate project excitement, aid with logistics and move transition planning, and communicate project updates without visitors having to step foot onto an active jobsite.
